Are you Dry, Dehydrated, or Stressed?

Updated: Apr 30

Your skin really needs to know!

If you have been following a dry skincare routine but your skin type is oily and dehydrated, your skin will not benefit from a skincare routine for dry skin and it may be the cause of your stressed skin.

Although skin types are genetically determined, dehydrated skin can often look and feel like dry skin. Dehydrated skin is a skin concern that can affect all skin types. If you have been experiencing dry flaky patches, itchiness, or tightness chances are your skin may be dehydrated.

If you ever applied foundation or concealer and moments later you see patches of makeup and your skin looks cakey it may be due to dehydration. Another sign of dehydrated skin is more than normal or an excessive amount of oil on the skin's surface. Despite the excessive oil the skin still feels tight or dry everywhere on the face. And then of course, there's the flaking! Since dehydrated skin comes and goes and does not persist it is the first sign that you are dealing with a skin concern and not a skin type.

Dehydrated skin can be caused by not drinking enough water, washing the face with very hot water, showering more than twice a day, frequent exposure to wind, rain and/or cold weather, using alcohol based toners or foaming face washes, excessively using cleansing brushes, intensive use of exfoliants, using skincare products incorrectly, or overusing spot treatments or cleansing masks.

Once you have determined the cause you can make the adjustments needed to cure and treat the affected skin. As part of your new skin care routine you can improve dehydrated skin by using only gentle cleansers that don't leave your skin feeling tight or dry. Also not using harsh scrubs or rough cleansing brushes. Using only fragrance free skin care products. When using boosters use on alternate days or every other day to judge how your skin does. Also only use hydrating toners, serums, and moisturizers that contain skin replenishing and skin restoring ingredients.

Natural Hydration for the Skin

Rose Hydrolats with Glycerin helps tone, cool, and hydrate skin. When combined with glycerin it is extremely hydrating. It is also a mild astringent, has antibacterial properties, and is anti-inflammatory. Rose water also maintains the skin's natural pH balance.

Makeup Tip: Misting rose hydrolat on your face after applying a layer of powdered makeup will transform the foundation into your skin. You can alternate between the rose water and powder to maintain a natural fresh look. This is the only way I apply it and it has made all the difference when applying powdered makeup.

Hydrolats will be part of our Hydra Fresh Blend product line along with Fresh Face Formulas skincare launch this summer!

And Remember . . . Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate!

The key to glowing radiant youthful skin is hydration. The importance of water cannot be stated enough. It is one of the most important contributors to beautiful skin. It flushes out toxins and battles breakouts. A person should drink at least eight glasses of water per day.

Warm showers are also very beneficial to the skin. Follow a shower with a body oil to retain moisture. When your skin is well hydrated, it looks young and healthy. If your face is dehydrated that means your entire body is probably dehydrated and that can affect your hair and skin allover.
